Why we're changing our pricing

It's no secret that companies change their pricing, but often these changes arrive unannounced and/or with little explanation. In an effort to buck the trend, we're sharing the following blog post that outlines the coming changes, and why we've decided to make them. Before we introduce the upcoming changes, it's worth outlining the rationale for our existing (soon-to-be legacy) pricing...

When we launched Squeaky publicly last April we only had a handful of features. Our beta testing had given us the confidence to launch, but we knew it would take several months to be truly competitive in the analytics space - even if our privacy-friendly credentials were second to none.

With that in mind, we priced our product in keeping with the simple nature of our offering. Each site would have access to all (2) of the features on offer and the price would vary depending on the volume of traffic a site received. 'Site traffic' didn't directly reflect the value our product offered any given customer, but it reduced the choice blindness that customers often face when trying to determine which software to buy, and this was incredibly important as a new entry to an established market - especially a new company that wasn't yet ready to compete on functionality.

Over the past 9 months, this approach has gradually made less sense. We now have 6 comprehensive areas of functionality, many of which are extremely valuable to larger businesses, but simply add noise to the decision-making process of smaller businesses. Furthermore, by offering every new feature on every plan, we're undervaluing the advanced functionality on offer. We're nearing feature parity with competitors that charge 1000x the price we do, and whilst we have no intention of multiplying our prices by 1000, we're confident that our pricing should be updated to reflect the varying and divergent needs of our customers.

The goal of our updated pricing is thus to provide a clear distinction between the product and service offering for our smallest customers, right up to the most demanding enterprise clients. This will help us to better target the improvements and upgrades we offer, and align our pricing more closely to the value our product and services provide to each group.

The new pricing plans

In the image below you'll find an overview of the new plans we're introducing. Underneath the image, there is a plain text list of the plans, along with their prices in the three currencies we currently support.

Free

Usage:
  • 500 visits per month

Starter

Pricing
  • $25.00, €23.50, or £20.00 paid monthly.
  • Or pay yearly upfront (saving 20%) at $20.00, €18.75, or £16.65 per month.

Business

Usage:
  • 50,000 visits per month
  • Unlimited team members
  • Unlimited websites
  • 12-month data retention

Everything in Starter, plus the following upgrades and extras:

  • Heatmaps (Click, Click Count, Mouse, Scroll)

  • $295.00, €275.00, or £245.00 paid monthly.

What happens to customers on legacy plans

If you're a paying customer, your existing subscription will be honoured in perpetuity until you change plans, cancel your current plan, or your payment details expire.

If you are on the existing free tier, your usage and capabilities will be updated to align with the newly introduced free tier.

Please note: free sites will no longer have team functionality, meaning that existing Site Owners will be the only users that still have access to your site after the change.

When the new changes will take effect

Plans will be updated between the 13th and 17th of January 2023, depending on your plan and region.

What you need to do

You don't need to take any action, but if you'd like to secure one of our paid legacy plans before the end of this week, simply upgrade and we will honour your subscription going forward. The advantage to doing so is that you'll have access to all 6 of our current core features, without having to upgrade to the new business pricing (e.g. for Event Tracking).

Conclusion

Squeaky's new pricing creates a clear distinction between plans, helping us to meet the evolving needs of the wide array of businesses we serve. These changes will enable us to offer targeted, value-driven feature development for our growing customer base, whilst still maintaining a free offering that helps small businesses and hobbyists alike.

The changes will take place at the end of this week and you don't need to take any action unless you wish to take advantage of our legacy pricing plans before then, and don't forget: if you're an early-stage startup you can take advantage of our startup program for a 50% discount too!
